Respiratory System- A body function that allow gas exchange through all parts of the body
Trachea- A tube (windpipe) that connects to the pharynx and larynx, which allows passage of air to the lungs.
Diaphragm-A strong muscle under the lungs separating the thorax and the and abdomen, allowing the thorax to contract and expand.
Alveoli- Tiny clusters of air sacks where gas exchange occurs
Bronchi- Are two tubes that carry air from the trachea to the inner parts of the lung. They divide into smaller air passways call bronchioles.
Nasal Passage- the entrance into the respritory system.
Excretory System- A body system that includes the kidneys, ureter, and urinary bladder and is responsible for removing waste, uneccessary or dangerous materials from the body.
Kidney-Are paired organs with several functions: secretes waste (urea and ammonia), absorbs water, amino acids, and glucose, produce hormones, regulates electrolytes and blood pressure.
Ureter- muscular tubes that propels urine form the kidneys to the urinary bladder.(10-12 inches long)
Urinary Bladder-Collects urine excreted from the kidneys (via ureter) and sits on the pelvic floor
Capillaries- Small blood vessels that surrounds the alveoli and allows blood to absorb oxygen and to release carbon dioxide.

Science Project Due 11/6

It’s That Time to Put on Your Creative Thinking Caps! Students will have to do a project on one of the 8 body systems, endocrine, respiratory, circulatory, reproductive, muscular, skeletal, nervous, and excretory. The following will outline the expectations for this project: • Figure out which system you would like to do your project on. • Conduct research on your chosen body system and write a one page report that discusses facts and interesting ideas. You will be graded on proper grammar, punctuations, complete sentences, and indentations. Be sure to add a cover page. • You may build your system our of poster paper with an outline of our body, or use other materials such as newspaper, card board box, food, beads, buttons, foil, ect. (use your imagination, you may want to get a cake pan shaped into a human and decorated with icing to illustrate your body system, or use different types of noodles for the skeletal system) • Grading Criteria: Project-40 points, report- 30points, creativity-20, presentation- 10 points. • Project due Friday, November 6th.
